Subject: Important District Updates Ref. Attendance, Website Redesign and End of Year Family Celebration
To:

Dear SAC, HSA, and School District community members:

It's been a busy time for all of us, and I have a few important updates I need to share with you, so I'll share them all together.

The first is a renewed focus on attendance. We all know how much our kids can learn in one single day, and if they miss a day, there is a lot they can miss as well. Our Superintendent's vision is that teaching and learning should go full force till the last day of school. Attached you will find his letter to enlist parent support in ensuring that students are in school and learning every day through June 22.

The second is that our District's and school websites will be undergoing a makeover, and parent input is an important part of it. I would greatly appreciate if you could scroll down to learn about this very important project and how you can help us with it.

The third is that we are very grateful for all your support and would like to say "Thank You." So on June 14 we are hosting the End of Year Family Celebration to celebrate you, our leaders and volunteers, and also to share some interactive reading strategies you can use with your K-12 children over the summer. We would love to see you, so please come, if you are available. Children are welcome. If you are planning to attend, we would greatly appreciate if you could RSVP at www.philasd.org/prep to let us know. And for those driving, please note that after 4:00pm you can use parking at any District lot in Center City, including Parkway Center City, Stoddard Fleisher and FLC, as well as the SRC parking lot at Broad and Buttonwood.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Shannon

Website Redesign Project

We are very excited to inform you about the kick-off of the School District of Philadelphia's website redesign. Our website is an important communication tool for families, students and the public. The District's goal is to update all information on the site, make it more user-friendly, and incorporate modern technology.

To better understand parents' needs we are hosting two in-depth interviews with parents and guardians who:

  • Live in Philadelpha;
  • Have children in District schools; and
  • Have used the District website this year.

The interview format is designed for up to 5 participants per session and would take 90 minutes.

We are looking for volunteers to take part in one of the two parent interviews taking place at 440 N. Broad Street on:

  • Wednesday, June 15 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM
  • Thursday, June 16 from 10:30 AM to NOON

If would like to participate, please fill out the form below, leaving a working e-mail and phone number. You can also access the form online at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1hzoiPJd-uZzUsUgUqPo4AeCZSSPeQY7lK4SvxWpRKx0/viewform. We will contact you with next steps and additional details. The deadline to respond is Thursday, 6/9/2016 - first come, first served.

Another way families can inform this work is by filling out a short online survey (https://www.research.net/r/SDPWebsiteFeedback). If you use the District's website, we would greatly appreciate if you could take a few minutes to complete it.

Parent Interviews to Inform the Website Redesign Project

The School District of Philadelphia is looking to update the main website and the school websites to better assist parents and guardians navigate the District's educational resources.

To understand the needs of the group, we are looking to interview parents and guardians from across Philadelphia County. To qualify for participation, you must meet all of the following criteria:

• Parent or guardian of a student enrolled in the Philadelphia public school K-12
• Must live in Philadelphia County
• Used the website in the last 12 months

The in-depth interview will be in a group between 3-5 individuals in one room and take approximately 90 minutes. Individuals will be selected based upon open slots and participants' availability. The discussion will be recorded for the purposes of review by the researchers in this study.

If you are willing to participate, please fill out all of the fields below and select the dates and times you can attend.
